Data Security - Is There a Data Protection Regulation?

The EU will probably be the first instance to try and regulate this. I am very much looking forward to seeing what the legal sphere thinks about these kinds of things. And I'm always looking forward to voices from the data security community. So there is so much going on that we cannot really fathom yet because we can't look into the system, right?
