BGI: A Quasi-Private Company in China

BGI is this huge company in China it's located in Shenzhen which is the southern city right across the border from Hong Kong. The different regions in China compete actually economically so if you're an administrator in the Chinese government you're trying to move up and BGI recruited these guys away from Beijing. They've been running this as a quasi-private company but finance by the local government there. We have some DNA through our collaborator Robert Ploeman who got it through talented people like myself that did very well on the GREs.
