The Six Simple Machines

Work is force acting on an object in the direction of motion. We express a work in units of force and time, suchas a newton meter. A newton is the amount of force required to accelerate one kilogram of mass at one meter per second squared. So these are the basic units we're talking about - although we'll also be talking about a pound foot as a means of measurement.
