For me, i've also never been to belfast, but in my time in britain, a lot of actual streets over there feel like sets. I think we as americans are just kind of shook by a so to me, that really didn't bother me. Ah, i also wonder if part of why it does feel set like is because it's in black and white, and that sort of contributes to it, if that makes any sense.
