PTSD and Depression - What's the Bottom Line?

Researchers used postmortem brain tissue to characterize molecular alterations in specific circuits that we know are involved with the pathophysiology of PTSD and depression. They found lots of shared abnormalities across both PTSD and depression, and there are some distinct abnormalities. The expression of the genes that were found to be altered fell into interesting categories. One was immune function, another was microglial function, and finally inhibitory neurons, gab inhibitory neurons.
