The Social Imaginary and Imagination

The social imaginary is a pre-cognitive sort of under the surface pool of images, stories, legends, myth and narratives that drive our desires. And we don't necessarily think about those ideas until we stop and try to examine them. There's no one social imaginary; there are many of them. So if we were doing a Venn diagram, it would look very messy. But really the big difference is that these are just sort of the myths and legends and ideas that are underneath the surface That we just carry around with us and take for granted until we start to examine them."
