Alexander saverus tried to make peace before rome had made its point. When maximinius rose to address his troops one wintry morning, the men hailed him emperor and demanded that he agree to the job. After doubling everyone's rations and promising a large donative if the rebellion was successful, maximinius ordered his troops to begin marching on alexander's camp. The assassins found the young emperor in tent with his mother and a few loyal advisers by his side.
