You write that he learned from lowell benyan and others about the idea of costly loyalty to the church. That's very relateable, as someone who is planning to be a a child psychologist and then ended up being a historian. And so when he comes back to university of utah, he again is interacting with lowell benyon. So i think that that moment awakened him to the possibility, not of being a dissodent, because he never would have qualified for that term.
