Using a Ratio Table in a Workshop
Teachers use the ratio table as a tool for students to think with. The first step in cara is the concrete, the c, concrete, and then the r, the representational. Then we we draw pictures of what we just did. And then again, we sort of read off the answer at the end off the picture. Kids don't know how to model their thinking until they've had enough experience. We are about using relationships, just like mathematicians do. A couple of important points in closing: It's not about that en gol by step; it's all about relationship.
