Ode to Joy started out as a poem by Frederick Schiller and Beethoven loved this poem because it expressed like all these ideals of love and brotherhood that were really important to him. So he labored for 30 years, maybe getting that wrong, but like forever to set this poem to music. And during the time that he's working on it, he starts to lose his hearing and he has all these other personal troubles. He doesn't even realize when the music is actually over, when they're done playing. But when it's finished, there's a 20 year old Soprano and she turns him around to face the audience who are so overwhelmed. They're like standing up
