William and Elizabeth's Ghost Story
The ghost of a woman named fanny who died from smallpox was believed to have been killed by her husband, William kent. When william returned home and experienced the noises for himself, he quickly packed them up and moved out to a different nearby house. The noises stopped when they moved, but other problems began. Elizabeth created a system for the ghost, who would knock once for yes and twice for no. Despite elizabeth's claim that the ghost was the spirit of fanny herself, that spirit got her own father's name wrong,. among many other questions. It all came down to which party people were willing to believe in it.
