In 1920, the Des Moines Register sponsored the first Iowa girls' high school basketball tournament. Other states also launched similar tournaments around this time. College-educated PE teachers in the mold of Send-A-Baronson saw this increase in girls' competition and they were alarmed. In 1925, there was a big meeting in Iowa with the high school administrators about ending girls' basketball.
