This is the darkest chunk of this episode, I believe. So they helped Carmen test it. They sided with him in debates to come and they were probably wrong about it. It was meant to help lay people provide abortions, but it was probably too good to be true. And again, their overall results were that they were as good as any medical facility at that time.
