The president of interpole is not that powerful figure, but it's a post that is significantly less important to the running of interpol than that of the secretary general. But mister alrasy, as interpols president, is and will be the face of the organization. So his election is a reputational risk already, which can have real consequences. As one interpole told me, reputational damage means damage to trust, and damage to trust means that countries might be more reluctant to work with each other or to work through interpole.
