What Are Methane Hydrates?
Methane hydrates are what's known in chemistry technically as a clathrate. A composite which you got molecules of one kind of substance that are physically trapped within the crystal structure of another type of substance, in this case water ice. One cubic meter of methane hydrate would typically contain a hundred and 64 cubic meters of methane gas. If something causes these solids to melt, more can be released into the atmosphere.
