The Secret Sauce of John Frasciante

The California Cation album released on June 8th, 1999 was an even bigger hits than blood sugar sex magic selling almost 20 million copies around the planet. Not only was John off drugs and alcohol, but he became celibate, abstaining from all sexual activity. Even as the Chili Peppers toured the world behind California Cation, John continued to dabble with solo material. In 2001, he released to record only water for 10 days. It was still pretty avant-garde, but at least it was a little more coherent because the previous two albums were recorded while he was whacked down on heroin.
