The Effects of Extinction on Emotional Learning
Most interesting and relevant to therapy of these are emotional learnings, where there's a significant emotional component in the learning. Pavlovian conditioning is the classic laboratory paradigm for studying this stuff. Extinction experiments showed all of those thousands of times that the original emotional learning remains intact. The original fear memory or threat memory is easy to reactivate and it'll dominate again.
