The Cry of a Crying Baby
In the French, this really means more like a request. The parent or the primary caregiver hears the child's cry as a request and then shows up with whatever it is they think he/she is requesting. This transition where the child cries out in a state of pure need and I then use language effectively to bring meaning to that cry transforms the cry from an expression of need to a demand. So when my kid would cry, I'd always like grab a bottle, do something, mix some formula. Even when she was teeny tiny like less than six pounds. I had like an eyedropper and a holster. I was like ready for this shit.
