There is one possibly serious precedent being set here, which is that opening a case against Trump, which the Republicans are busting a gut to class as politically driven. It does pretty much guarantee that when the wheel turns, the Republicans will now regard political prosecutions and politically based prosecutions as legitimate. But I think that's already happening. Back in the House of Representatives, the headbangers, the Marjorie Taylor Greene and her crowd, they're trying to impeach Joe Biden for some sort of mysterious range of things.
