The Robin Hood Mythology
In 18 20, walter scott published ivanhoe which casts robin hood as this kind of romantic symbol of chivalry. He's now got this chivalric cast to him, and as a champion of the downtrodden saxons against the norman oppression. So he serves all these new convenient purposes. And you can see a parallel with, isa, with the arthurian revival. But still, the robin hood mythos has a kind of rougher and more populous edge to it than arthur.
