Christopher Columbus found a sea route on eastern Lee winds that took him down to the islands of the Caribbean. But he was convinced he had found what he called India Beyond the Ganges. On his way back to Spain, Columbus stopped in Portugal and paid an visit to King John II. Naturally, this sparked an international crisis. The two rival nations signed the Treaty of Tordes Cías.
