The Longing for the Arrival of Rains

In the early 1700s, Omar Singh II's court painters did something new. They combined this traditional idea of mood or bahve with huge landscape paintings documenting life in the kingdom. A powerful monsoon meant ample water for drinking, washing, irrigating farmland, and growing crops. In Udaipur, making most of the monsoon rains meant building lakes, aqueducts, and encouraging citizens to dig wells. But how do you make a couple months worth of rain stretch out over an entire year? Well, it's a little like Costco.
