For delicate fabrics, you want to get an ultra sharp machine needle. Teflon foots work really well for easy sliding. There are some tricks that you can use so that your fabric slides through a seam or ends up in the wrong place. A little scrap of paper when you're just starting to sew a seam doesn't get sucked into your machine.
