The food wheel is kind of a disaster. People are just like, what are you handing me? What am I supposed to do with it? So this actually went out. This wasn't like behind the scenes. This actually was official device from the U.S. In 1988, they decide to hire a PR firm to come up with and test different graphics. The PR firm starts testing graphics and they land on the pyramid. And that same year, Congress sort of reconsiders their division of labor between USDA and HHS.
In the 1990s, the Food Pyramid was one of the most recognizable symbols in nutrition education. But where did it come from? Why was it created by the agriculture department? And why did it tell us to eat a whole loaf of bread every day?
