Do Prophylactic Antibiotics Really Prevent Infections?
When we're talking about prophylactic antibiotics, we better be clear about the type of infection that we're preventing. If I'm only preventing a tiny bit of redness, which itself doesn't even need any treatment, that clearly isn't worth the harm. Unless we're preventing something really important, something like sepsis or admissions, I think it makes way more sense to wait until they're signs of infection and just treat them.
