AI Risk Skepticism or AI Risk Denialism?

In what sense, if any, do you think that the greater awareness of AI safety issues has somehow made it worse for the development of AGI or ASI? So it's a very complex issue. It's very hard to tell whatever something was a positive or negative force in this direction. I can think of examples where effective altruist funding agencies gave money to companies like OpenAI. But the side effect was that they are pushing this technology faster than anyone else. History will tell; let's hope it's one more than the other.
