God and Job in the Book of Job

The prologue begins in heaven with a bet between god and mephistopheles over the soul of faust. So notice what gerta does. He reframes the story, and he places it within a frame that's already familiar by appealing to an allusion which virtually everyone reading faust ought to be expected to know. The book of job begins with a meeting between god and satan. And they effectively have a wager as to whether job will maintain his faith even when his virtue is rewarded with nothing but torment.
