The Negative Impacts of Austerity Measures on the African Economy

After colonialism and its aftermath, many countries at the time were left in such bad economic shape, they had no choice but to seek loans from the IMF. He says the cuts to social services meant that poorer people weren't able to access adequate healthcare and public services. In May this year there have been some protests in Suriname about the austerity measures that the IMF has imposed yet again in return for a loan package.
