In February of 421, Honorius invited his favorite general to take the final step. In a ceremony at Ravenna, Constantius was elevated to the rank of Augustus. This elevation triggered a huge sigh of relief from across the western empire. But who could possibly be opposed to this awesome plan? Well, how about the Eastern Emperor, theodosius II? It's been a couple of episodes since our increasingly western-focused history of Rome has headed east.
