The Manhattan project was an engineering project it wasn't really a theoretical physics project. We learned just over 100 years ago that we've got fundamental limitations on this. And I can't stand to constantly hear that you want wants to go to Mars to save the world because there's not enough diversity locally to do any. It may be that whatever Einstein figured out more or less is unhackable and that even when you move from effective theories to ultimate theories, it can be that there's nothing new to do. But right now, between 1952 and 54, you put the world on notice that we're going to blow ourselves up unless we have an open explosion which does.
