I feel like the property crime problem here has reached a point where it's like a real sort of inflection point. I think that if people felt like there was consequences for like speeding, driving recklessly for muggings and all these like small crimes, that it would actually decrease the crime. The big problem is we rely so heavily on incarceration when people do actually get punished. And especially as they go along racial demographics, like half of Black students in SFUSD are not even close to meeting satisfactory for literacy tests. We're in economy where you need to have a decent amount of technical skills to have a good life. It just feels like the East Bay Oakland is in this point where
