There is no place between 1 and 2, 2 and 3 for numbers like 1.5 or 2 and a quarter. We found a charged particle called an electron that seemed to only come in one type with one specific charge. The mechanics of how these quanta interact and how they behave became quantum mechanics. This was all very weird, and yet, test after test, many from totally unrelated types of experiments kept confirming all these results.
