The Connection Between Hypocratic Medicine and Presocratic Philosophy

In the ancient world, there was a legend that hippocrates learned his medical wisdom by reading the walls of the temple. But for medicine in the proper sense, empedocles was the most important of the famous prisocratics. He claimed that wherever he went people asked him to cure them and also that he had knowledge of drugs. We can also point to the attitude that hypocratic authors take towards religion. In fact, greek medicine was closely related to religious practice. There were elaborate cults which involved asking the gods for healing.
