He Was Despised, and We Esteemed Him Not
He is despised, and we esteemed him not can you hear the rhymes repeating these lamentable lines? What heis going through? He is despised. That word comes up twice, and it's a powerful word if you unpack it. The same word in hebrew that was used to describe what esau felt about his birthright. It's worth less than this mess of pottage. I don't care about it. So when it says that he is a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, he is so familiar with it that there is an intimate, relational knowledge with suffering, of suffering, that jesus has because he condescended to experience it on our level
