"I was obsessed with platform shoes. ... I just rationalized it to myself that shoes were more like a shoe architecture," he says. In school, "I didn't want someone else's opinion because I wanted to be right or wrong." He moved from Toronto to London in 1983 and has lived there ever since. The designer who first introduced him to fashion is now one of Canada's biggest designers.
