Ernest shackleton's heroic journey from elephant island, close to antarctica to south georgia was reprised by environmental scientists and adventurer tim jarvis. And he did it wearing era appropriate clothing and without using modern equipment. Why would he or anyone put themselves through something like that? Well, tim's answer is along the lines of the famous mountain climbers phrase, because it was there. I think exploration really is in the d an a of being human. So we turned to a modern polar explorer for his big picture perspective ond what drives us to explore.
