The Difference Between Greek Drama and Shakespearean Comedy

There is a difference between Shakespearean drama and Greek drama, if we look at Shakespeare's tragedies we see one of the prime differences. A good way to understand the difference is that if King Lear for example were a Greek tragedy or a tragedy in the Greek tradition then the whole play would be with Lear on the Heath. We talk about catharsis, we talk about tragedy specifically as being cathartic, we leave the theatre purged, we feel like something has been exorcised from us but hopefully we leave feeling a little bit lighter,.
