Did the Communist Party Come to You and Say, Why Don't You Join?

In Soviet Union, if you're Jewish, so this was not just a matter of social origin. For example, it would have been very difficult for me to become a professor at the University of Bucharest because of being Jewish. At that time, I had to be a member of the Communist Party. And so you wouldn't join, and so they wouldn't let you in. So they didn't care once, once as long as you were in good standing with the Communist Party,. But if you're not in good standing, then it doesn't matter how good you are.
