I think that every news organization in America was disrupted by Donald Trump, especially by his attacking the media. He focused on CNN and I'm not sure if it's because of our position as the only non-ideological, 24-hour cable news network. But he picked on us a lot, but that's okay. As Hyman Roth said, this is the business we've chosen. We're not an entertainment company with a news division. That is what I said to Chris Licht when he came on board at CNN. Our North Star here at CNN has always been the journalism choir,. Not preaching to the choir or anything like that.
When political spectacles abound, how can the media focus on the substance and avoid the clickbait? And is there a market left for nonpartisan cable news? Chief Washington Correspondent and Anchor of The Lead Jake Tapper joins us to discuss these questions, and his new book, All the Demons Are Here, a Post-Watergate thriller with inspiration from Trump, Murdoch and more.
