Diet culture is a system of beliefs that demonizes some foods while elevating others. The abstinence approach to food actually exascerbates disordered eating because it puts people on the restriction pendulum. And so either way, it's driving people into a disordered place with food. We have to have pleasure. It's important. It's not pathological. So when we try to fight this natural inclination, fight this adaptive mechanism that keeps us excited about food and keeping us thriving and nourished, that's when we start to really struggle. i encourage you to check out episode 80 if you're interested in learning more about why food isn't addictive.
