The Problem With Illusionism
I think I'm rather happy to grant that there is a sense in which illusionism denies something that seems extremely obvious. Even pre-theoretically. Something whose appearance does not depend on the adoption of any theory but is simply the result of the functioning of introspection understood at the non-theoretical process. But it's seemingly obvious nature, which I recognize, cannot be the last word of this debate. Some people seem to think that the case for illusionism depends on the antecedent acceptance of physicalism. This might even have seemed the case in my previous argument, but these people would claim physicalism is a very ambitious metaphysical thesis and maybe we should not bet on its
