A Study of Deep Neural Networks in Autonomous Vehicles

To make a car fully autonomous, it needs to take in a lot of data about its surroundings and compute on that data. The computing is often done with algorithms called deep neural networks or DNNs. And if you scale that up to a billion vehicles, that would be 21.6 quadrillion inferences per hour driven. For example, across all of Facebook's data centers, there was on the order of trillions of deep neural network or DNN inferences or forward passes per day.
