Samuel ben gurion thought it might take a century to build up a jewish majority in palestine. He was uncompromising on the question of jewish national sovereignty over the country. With british support, the zionists would focus on building a state within a state. They didn't care that the arabs made up 88 % of the population. That was just a historical mistake, and now they were here to rectify it.
