The magazine's name is a reference to the 2600 Hertz tone that formerly controlled AT&T's switching system. John Draper and other phone freakers in the 1960s became famous for using toy whistles found in Captain Crunch cereal boxes. As we go through the four phases of civil sex security, we will see these threads pop up time and again.
