The Importance of Being a Parent

Carmen's mother is a mercurial woman. Her rage just seems to ignite and explode at the slightest provocation. I really worked hard over the years to see my mother as not a villain, to really humanize her. For decades, I was sincerely angry at the trauma and abuse that we endured. The role that she put me in as essentially a mother, I was parentified,. so I became a parent.
