The Viking Legacy Lives On

The Viking legacy remains in the land and language of England. What we call the Queen's English is just as likely to be the Vikings' English. Their sailors gave us nautical terms such as port and starboard, which is always on the right side of a Viking ship. Any surname ending in Sun, like Thompson or Ericsson, goes back to the Viking convention of naming a child after the father. A quarter of residents of the Scottish Isles have Viking genes.
