Mendelssohn's Third Symphony
Mendelsohn wrote five symphonies, and this one is officially numbered the third. The opening theme was inspired by the ruins to the hollyrood chapel which he wrote about so evocatively. In performance, it's important for the violas to allow the obo to come through, giving the music the color it deserves.
