I was never the star pupil in my class. I barely passed English in high school and it took a long time for me to understand that storytelling is not necessarily writing like you like screenwriting is cinematic dictation. So I got better at writing for wanting to express something that I already knew was worth telling, he says. He also learned how to get good by working harder than everybody else so "I just go into everything assuming that's what I'll have to do"
