Astronauts on the ISS are protected from cosmic radiation by Earth's magnetic field. But further out in space, astronauts can be exposed to a much more dangerous type of radiation. The Artemis I mission will send yeast into an orbit around the sun so it can see how this affects human cells and DNA over six months. NASA also plans to build a permanent moon base with water ice that could help fuel future missions to Mars.
