Economists Are Just Starting to Make Sense of It
History shaped the institutions we designed, in a way that's still having an effect on the labor market to day. The big idea here is that even if people aren't discriminating to day, the shadow of history still means that markets can yield discrimination. There are lots of examples of thatn that if you start to dig in and you ask yourself, why do we do things a certain way? You'll see that it comes out of our discriminatory past. And i i think that's why economists are just starting to figure out how to make sense of it.
